This time I went to Kami Igusa, the place which appeared in the opening of “Daily Lives of High School Boys” anime. I found out that Kami Igusa is promoted as the anime town when I searched in the internet. And, I was surprised that Sunrise (animation studio) is there too. I have loved the anime created by Sunrise since I was in elementary school. And to my surprise, Suginami Animation Museum (I wrote an article about it before) is near Kami Igusa. I didn’t realize that though.
Even if Kami Igusa and my place is in Tokyo, it took me about 1 hour by train to go there. From Ayase Station, I needed to change trains 2 times. First I changed trains in Otemachi Station (Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line) and then in Takadanobaba (Tokyo Metro Touzai Line). In Takadanobaba I rode the train to Kami Igusa Station (Seibu Shinjuku Line). I went there when it was rush hour (about 8 o’clock) and the trains was really crowded, especially Tokyo Metro trains.

I arrived at Kami Igusa Station. The first thing I saw was a statue of Gundam. Is it only me or is the Gundam making a help me pose? Behind the statue was a police station. I felt really guilty taking a picture when the policeman was staring at me. Near the statue there was a plate with a Haro picture on it. It was really cute.
There’s a bakery called Saint ETOILE in the front of the station. From its name it feels kind of high class. I also wanted to buy some bread but if I brought them home, the bread wouldn’t be as delicious so I didn’t.

Kami Igusa Station which appeared in the opening. You can’t see from this picture but there was a lot of snow which hadn’t melted behind me. The trains come really fast. If I didn’t hurry up, I couldn’t take the picture.

When I walked around the area, I found some Gundam pictures in strange places like a real estate, bank, laundry, etc. And there were Gundam flags everywhere. When I saw all these things, I thought “The Sunrise building must be around here”.

I finally arrived at Sunrise building. There were posters of the anime which Sunrise recently made in front of the building. Personally, I like Phy Brain and Tiger&Bunny.
The Family Mart which appeared in the opening. I don’t see any differences from the other Family Marts. A normal Family Mart that you can see everywhere.
And the Café&Restaurant called Aoyagi. I was surprised to see the big Keroro Gunsou there. And when I took a close look, there were Gintama figurines too. The food here is a little expensive but it was delicious. I love the atmosphere there. By the way, I ordered a cup of hot cocoa and a herb chicken saute. I like the refreshing taste when I put some lemon on it.

I couldn’t find the other place from the opening but I think the closest one is this. But, the position of the vending machine was different.
The interesting places I found in Kami Igusa :
It’s a normal clinic but the mascot character is so cute. It’s my first time seeing a clinic which has a mascot character in Tokyo.
Next is the Seven Eleven in front of Aoyagi. In the corner there is a Gundam statue.
When I first saw this building from afar I thought what’s with this yellow building. It was a pachinko parlor. It’s a little different from the normal pachinko parlor I’ve seen.
An old looking confection shop. I’ve never seen the real one but it’s the same as it was drawn in mangas.
The posters I saw in Takadanobaba Station. It’s so cute. I just love Giroro’s angry expression. Warning posters using anime characters are really interesting. Japan should make more of these things.
For me Kami Igusa seems more like a Gundam Town rather than an anime town. The truth is there are not many places to see in Kami Igusa but I recommend this place for people who want to relax and take a walk, people who saw “Daily Lives of High School Boys” opening and is interested to see the place with their own eyes, and people who want to see the building of the animation studio Sunrise. And from here you can take a bus to go to Suginami Animation Museum. I took the same route from when I go here to go back home.
